Liquid Health Glucosamine is different because it is a fast-absorbing liquid. Unlike tablets, which may not digest fully, Liquid Health’s Glucosamine is immediately absorbed into the body. Liquid Health Glucosamine also teams up the power of MSM, which is a natural anti-inflammatory, and chondroitin, which helps lubricate the joints for easy movement.
Researchers have found that oral glucosamine is easily absorbed and leads to the stimulation of healthy new cartilage and other protective molecules. Their studies also have shown that oral glucosamine carried this benefit without any toxicity, contraindications, or other harmful side effects. This is a stark contrast to dangerous COX-2 medications such as Celebrex or Vioxx. Vioxx was removed from the market in September 2004 and which may have been implicated in tens of thousands of heart attacks and strokes.
Are there Any Risks with Glucosamine?
There do not appear to be any major side effects other than mild gastrointestinal upset for some people. Those with diabetes however need to consult with a physician and have their condition monitored (as usual). Persons allergic to shellfish should avoid glucosamine and due to lack of data, pregnant or nursing individuals should avoid glucosamine. Overall, glucosamine is very well tolerated and has a long history of safety in many different countries of the world.
If you're thinking about trying glucosamine and chondroitin, the Arthritis Foundation advises a few precautions:
- Patients who are taking the blood-thinning medication heparin -- whose molecular structure is similar to chondroitin -- should have their blood clotting activity monitored if they add chondroitin. Taking both at the same time could increase the risk of bleeding.
- Diabetic patients wanting to try glucosamine (an amino sugar) should consider potential effects on their blood sugar control.
- If you're allergic to shellfish, avoid taking glucosamine, which is made from crab, lobster or shrimp shells. (Chondroitin is manufactured from cow cartilage.)
- And before you rush out to buy either of them, make sure that osteoarthritis is the cause of your pain; glucosamine and chondroitin don't seem to help other forms of the disease, such as rheumatoid arthritis.
Of course, it's always a good idea to talk to your doctor first.
